The power of Beeswax and why we use it
Wax and fragrance are arguably the two most important parts of a scented candle. The wax is responsible for releasing the fragrance into your space, the type of flickering flame produced, and how long your candle lasts.
Here at Onix Wonderland, we choose to use a blend of vegetable wax (Coconut, rapeseed and soy) and beeswax in our luxury candles. We believe that beeswax is one of the most wonderful and underrated natural resources on the planet – and we feel passionate about the power of this amazing wax. When it comes to quality, health, fragrance and sustainability, beeswax ranks above other types of candle wax.
The only downside to a high-quality product like beeswax is that it is considerably more expensive to produce than other waxes, which is why many well-known brands opt for cheaper paraffin wax in their products. Always carefully read the contents of the label on the package to ensure you know which wax you are purchasing.
Breathe Easier with Beeswax
Most high street store bought candles are predominantly made with the cheaper paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum oil. They give easier scent throw and burning time to candles, but when they burn, they release toxic VOCs (chemicals) and known carcinogens into the air – similar to breathing diesel fumes in your own home.
It’s no surprise that these airborne toxins can exacerbate conditions like asthma and allergies. Over time, regularly breathing in these fumes is bad for your overall lung health.
Most other types of candle wax require a lengthy chemical process to create the final candle from the original raw material. Beeswax in its natural state is already in wax form, so it doesn’t need the addition of synthetic ingredients or chemicals.
One of the most unique and magical features of beeswax is its ability to purify the air. Beeswax candles emit negative ions as they burn. Negative ions help to neutralize pollutants in the air, helping to eliminate dust, mould spores, pollen and any unpleasant odors that float around.
Beeswax candles naturally purify the air and improve air quality, which is just one of the many reasons we chose to incorporate this amazing wax into our Onix Wonderland® candles. Lighting a beeswax candle in your bedroom before bed can also help enhance restful sleep and improve your breathing during the night.
Quality investment
Candles containing beeswax are generally more expensive than candles made from other waxes – but the results really speak for themselves.
With the highest melting point of all candle waxes, beeswax candles have a significantly longer burn time. Not only that, but the light they emit is said to be the most visually beautiful – their flame emits a pure, warm light to counteract a day of looking at the blue light from screens. This soft glow is perfect for combating eyestrain or headaches, helping you create a relaxing environment in which to unwind after a long day.
